At least 33 shops were gutted in a fire that broke out early Tuesday at Ferry ghat intersection in the city.
Iqbal Bahar Bulbul, deputy director of fire service, said the fire broke out at around 6 am and engulfed 33 shops mostly of winter cloths.
Eight firefighting units from Boyra and Tutpara rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control within half an hour, he added.
The origin of the fire could not be known yet.
