Minister apologises for Razakar list fiasco

The newly published list of local collaborators of the Pakistani occupation force in 1971 will be revoked, if massive complaints of error come forward, said Liberation War Affairs Minister Md Mozammel Hossain.

“The list of Razakars was prepared beforehand. The ministry published it according to the files of the home ministry,” he told media at the capital’s Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Tuesday.

The minister also apologised for the inclusion of freedom fighters in the list.

His remarks came after a complaint against the inclusion of gazette-listed freedom fighter Tapan Kumar Chakraborty and his mother Usha Chakraborty in the list of Pakistani force’s local collaborators went viral on social media.

“As a freedom fighter, I would have been hurt as the other ones, if my name was found in the list. I regret this mistake,” he said.

Confessing that the list has been published without any edit, the minister said, “The authorities are gathering information [regarding the list]. The complaints will be scrutinized.”

The minister assured appropriate actions after investigating if anyone with ill motive is involved in the disgraceful error.
“It is not fair to place any innocent in guilty position,” he added.
