Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md Anisur Rahman foiled an attempted early marriage for a schoolgirl in the district on Wednesday.
Mobile court sources said acting on a tip-off, members of the law enforcement agencies went to Goyla Dakkhinpara of Sirajganj municipal area in the afternoon where arrangements were underway to marry off the 13-year-old 8th grader to a boy aged 20 of the same area.
The mobile court stopped the marriage.
At the same time, the father and the mother of the bride and the bridegroom signed an undertaking promising not to marry off their children before they both turn adults.
Fahima Al Ashraf, Programme officer of Department of Women Affairs, Nazrul Islam, Assistant Municipal Land officer and Ansar battalion members were part of the mobile court team.
