A Jessore court has placed Constable Deb Prasad Saha on remand for five days in a case filed over charges of treason.
Judge Saifuddin Hussain of Jessore Senior Judicial Magistrate's court passed the order on Thursday.
Deb is accused of sending classified information about Bangladesh to India, confirmed Jessore Additional Superintendent of Police Md Touhidul Islam to Dhaka Tribune.
On December 15, Benapole port police station OC Mamun Khan filed the case against Deb with Benapole port police station, accusing him of treason, and he was arrested on December 17.
According to the case details, Deb used to travel to India crossing No Man's Land and hand over USB drives to two Indians named S Chakrabarty and Pintu, containing sensitive information about Bangladesh, during his service at the Benapole immigration office between 2014 and 2018.
On October 25 this year, the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Sainik Shahnewaz Shaheen from Dhaka, who informed them about how some members of law enforcement were leaking information to India.
Later, police formed a probe committee, which discovered a video of a conversation between Deb and a police superintendent of India named Abdullah Aref.
