Prosecutor Mohammad Ali removed from war crimes tribunal

The government has removed Mohammad Ali from the post of International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) prosecutor for breaching discipline and professional misconduct.

The Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs issued a notice in this regard on Sunday (Jan 5).

Mohammad was taken off from all cases since Feb 9, 2016, and stands accused of misconduct in the case charged against Jatiya Party’s ex-lawmaker MA Hannan.

In June 2014, Ali submitted a plea to Syed Haider Ali, the then acting chief prosecutor, to take action against another prosecutor of the tribunal, Tureen Afroz.

In return, Tureen also accused Ali of mental harassment and filed a complaint with the then acting chief prosecutor.

Tureen was removed from the tribunal for alleged misconduct on Nov 11 last year.

Ali was appointed to the International Crimes Tribunal as a prosecutor on Oct 5, 2011.
