A Lakshmipur court today sentenced three people to death and five others to life term imprisonment for killing a local leader of Awami League (AL).
Judge Md. Shahenur of District and Sessions Judge’s Court in Lakshmipur passed the order around 11:30am.
The death-row convicts are Kafil Uddin, Abdur Rahman and Md. Joynal. Of them, Kafil is in jail and Rahman and Joynal are on run.
The people who got life term imprisonment are Md. Julfiqar, Khorshed Alam, Yeasin Arafat Rafi, Md. Mukter and Md. Shahjalal.
According to the case statement, Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan, Lakshmipur sadar upazila’s Charshahi union AL president was slaughtered to death on May 21 in 2014. Later, his wife Anjum Ara Begum filed a murder case against some unknown people with Lakshmipur sadar police station.
