A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Haripur Salda in Sadar upazila early Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Parvez Khan, son of Yusuf Ali Khan of Aruapara Rajarhat in the district town.
Tipped off that a robber gang was taking preparations to commit robbery, a team of police conducted a drive in the area in the wee hours, said Golam Mostafa, officer-in-charge of Kushtia Model Police Station.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the hoodlums opened fire on them forcing them to fire back.
Parvez was caught in the line of fire and sustained bullet injuries.
Later, he was taken to Kushtia General Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
One pistol, one magazine, three bullets and a sharp weapon were recovered from the spot.
Parvez was wanted in nine cases, said police.
