Coronavirus spreads to 21 districts

Apart from the capital Dhaka, the novel coronavirus has spread to 21 districts of Bangladesh with cluster transmissions confirmed in various areas.

According to the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), the districts are Gazipur, Jamalpur Kishoreganj, Madaripur, Manikganj, Narsingdi, Rajbari, Tangail, Shariatpur, Sherpur, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Cumilla, Moulvibazar, Sylhet, Rangpur, Gaibandha, Nilphamari, Chuadanga, Mymensingh and Dhaka.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases jumped to 424 with 94 new ones detected in the past 24 hours. The death toll has risen to 27 with six new fatalities, said IEDCR director Meerjady Sabrina during an online briefing on Friday.

Of the total 424 cases, 196 are from 61 areas of capital Dhaka. Ten people or more than that were detected in Basabo, Uttara, Dhanmondi, Wari and Mirpur-1.

Narayanganj is considered a virus hotspot with 59 of new patients detected in the district.
