Coronavirus: Manikganj reports 2 new cases

A policeman and a trader were diagnosed with coronavirus in Shibalay and Harirampur upazilas on Friday night.

The police constable is a resident of Shibalay and the trader lives in Harirampur upazila.

Soon after the test reports came in, the local administration put nine villages of the two upazilas under lockdown to avoid further transmission of coronavirus.

Sadar Hospital Supervisor Doctor Arshad Ullah said the police constable was posted at Muksudpur Police Station in Gopalganj.

He got admitted to the Upazila Health Complex with fever and cough on April 6. They collected his samples and sent to IEDCR for testing. The result turned out to be positive.

Later, he was transferred to the Isolation Unit of Kuwait-Maitree Hospital in Dhaka, Dr Arshad said.

Meanwhile, the trader returned from Dhaka on April 8 and went to Harirampur Upazila Health Complex. His samples were sent to IEDCR and he tested positive for coronavirus.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sabina Yasmin said the village in which the trader lived was locked down soon after the result came in.

They also put Singair Municipality and Jarmita Union under lockdown as a farmer died with coronavirus symptoms and a tabligh member was diagnosed with coronavirus.
