Coronavirus: 75 areas of Dhaka city affected

At least 75 areas of Dhaka city have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic so far.

Police have placed 54 out of the 75 affected areas of the city under lockdown so far, as per media outlet reports.

The city accounted for nearly 50% of the new 139 Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. Two of the four new deaths were from Dhaka.

Furthermore, of the 1,251 new samples collected for testing, 661 were from Dhaka, according to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research.

In the Tolarbag area, 19 people have tested positive for Covid-19. 672 families of 40 buildings in the area were brought under lockdown on March 20, a day after an elderly person in the area died due to coronavirus infection.

Second in the list of areas with the most infected after Tolarbag, is Uttara, where 17 people have tested positive for the virus.

In Wari, a very densely populated part of Old Dhaka, there are 16 Covid-19 patients.

Dhanmondi and Lalbag are in fourth and fifth place with 14 and 13 cases respectively.

Basabo, which once topped the list, is now in sixth place alongside Mohammadpur with 12 Covid-19 patients each.

Another heavily populated area, Jatrabari now has 11 people who have tested positive for Covid-19.

Mirpur dominates the list if all areas under it are added up. There are currently five patients in Mirpur 1, two in Mirpur 6, five in Mirpur 10, 10 in Mirpur 11, eight in Mirpur 12, and two in Mirpur 13.

There are eight patients from Hazaribagh, while Banani, Bangshal, and Mohakhali have seven patients each.

Shantinagar and Green Road have 5 patients each, while Badda, Bashundhara, Chawk Bazar, Gulshan, and Mogbazar, each have four patients.

Babu Bazar, Baily Road, Gendaria, Jigatala, and Tejgaon account for three patients each.

Agargaon, Azimpur, Gulistan, Hatirpool, Islampur, Jailgate, Kotwali, Laxmibazar, Malibagh, Mirhajirbag, Narinda, Pirerbag, Purana Paltan, Rajarbag, Shah Ali Bagh, Shahbag, and Sutrapur, each have two patients.

The areas which have one patient are: Mitford, Mugda, Nawabpur, Nikunja, Rampura, Rayerbazar, Sayedabad, Showari Ghat, Siddheshwari, Shanir Akhra, Urdu Road, Adabor, Ashkona, Begunbari, Beribadh, Bosila, Buet Area, Central Road, Dhakeshwari, Dholaikhal, Doyaganj, Eskaton, Farmgate, Hatirjheel, Kamrangirchar, Kazipara, Kodomtoli, and Manikdi.

Even after excluding Dhaka city, Dhaka division takes up 35% of the total infected in the last 24 hours.

Of the districts of the division, Dhaka district has 22 patients, while Gazipur has 23, Kishoreganj 10, Madaripur 19, Manikganj 5, Narayanganj 107, Munshiganj 14, Narsingdi 4, Rajbari 6, Tangail 2, Shariatpur 1, and Gopalganj 3.
