Kawran Bazar closed to retailers

Kawran Bazar closed to retailers

As part of the authorities' attempt to ensure social distancing, retailers have been barred from setting up shop or conduct business in the Kawran Bazar area of Dhaka city from now on, until further notice.

Only wholesalers are permitted to carry on with their businesses within the allotted time period, during the night.

Tejgaon police OC Hasnat Khandaker said the retailers can set up shop in front of Government Science College from now on maintaining social distance from one another.

Including shopkeepers, workers, and business owners, six people have tested positive for Covid-19 so far from the Kawran Bazar area, the biggest kitchen markets in the capital.

The decision was taken following the suggestion of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control, and Research (IEDCR), police said.

Other than that, vegetable and food wholesalers can conduct operations from 9pm to 2am and fish markets can run from 4am to 9am, respectively, Khandaker said.

The new schedule would be implemented from Wednesday onwards, he added.

Covid-19 has claimed 110 lives so far in Bangladesh and has infected 3,382.
