Coronavirus: 31 ISKCON members test positive

As many as 31 members of an International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) ashram located in Swamibag area under Gendaria police station in the capital have tested positive for coronavirus infection.

Gendaria police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Saju Miah confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

The ashram was locked down around 8pm on Saturday.

The infected 31 people are undergoing treatment at the ashram under its own management instead of a hospital, said the OC.

“The people who tested positive live in the ashram,” he informed.

Mamun Shah, Gendaria police outpost in-charge, said: “The infected have been isolated and are undergoing treatment, as per the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control And Research’s (IEDCR) directive. We have totally locked down the road of the area to prevent the virus from spreading.”

In Bangladesh, 4,998 people have tested positive for coronavirus and there have been 140 recorded deaths from coronavirus infection so far.

The fast spreading Covid-19 has claimed more than 197,000 lives and infected over 2,845,000 globally, according to Worldometer.
