Coronavirus: 373 doctors infected in Bangladesh

Doctors fighting the coronavirus in the front lines continue to suffer as 21 more physicians were confirmed infected since Sunday.

According to Bangladesh Doctors’ Foundation (BDF), the total number of infected doctors now stands at 373, nearly a 600% rise from just 54 on April 14.

This means some 27 doctors have been infected per day over the last two weeks.

Dhaka Division reports the highest infections at 283, followed by 36 in Mymenshingh, and 13 in Chittagong. Most cases were reported at government hospitals.

Bangladesh reported the first death of a doctor diagnosed with Covid-19 on April 15. Earlier, on April 12, a doctor died with symptoms similar to Covid-19 in Dhaka.

As of Sunday, Bangladesh has reported 145 deaths and 5,416 cases of Covid-19.

The fast-spreading virus has claimed over 207,000 lives globally and infected more than 2,995,150 people, according to Worldometer.

As many as 881,510people have also recovered from Covid-19, a disease caused by a new strain of coronavirus, which has spread to 210 countries and territories across the globe.
