Restaurants allowed to sell iftar items

Restaurants in Dhaka will be able to sell iftar items from Tuesday only for takeaway, says the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

However, eateries will not be allowed to set up stalls outside on the footpaths, said DMP spokesperson Masudur Rahman.

“Restaurants can only sell iftar items for takeaway, which means they are not allowed to serve customers at their premises,” said Deputy Commissioner Rahman.

The restaurants as well as its customers will have to strictly maintain social distancing rules, he added.

Bangladesh has been under lockdown from March 26 and the period of closure has been extended several times since — most recently until May 5 — as the number of coronavirus cases and deaths continued to surge.
