Coronavirus cases in Bangladesh top 7,000

Eight more people died from coronavirus in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours till Wednesday, taking the death toll in the country to 163.

Besides, the total coronavirus cases in the county have reached 7,103 with 641 new ones reported during the period.

Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), came up with the disclosure in the daily online health bulletin at the Management Information System (MIS) in the afternoon.

She also said 11 more people have recovered. With this, 150 people have so far made recovery.

Prof Nasima said 4,968 samples were tested in were tested in the last 24 hours. With this, a total of 5,9701 samples have so far been tested in the country, she said.

Mentioning that Evercare Hospital Dhaka, Square Hospitals Ltd and United Hospitals Ltd in the capital have been allowed to conduct coronavirus test, she said, “If any other hospitals appeal for conducting coronavirus test, we’ll consider it.”

On Tuesday, Bangladesh reported seven more deaths from coronavirus and 497 new cases.

Meanwhile, the global death toll from coronavirus has reached 211,537 as of Tuesday morning.

It has so far infected 3,064,225 people around the world, according to Worldometer.

Of those infected, 1,930,301 are currently being treated and 56,300 of them are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 922,387 people have recovered.

The World Health Organisation declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.
