Another member of police died of COVID-19 at the Central Police Hospital at Rajarbagh in Dhaka on Saturday.
With him, casualty from the disease among the police rose to five.
Sub-inspector Sultanul Arefin,44, was working with Public Order Management West Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
After diagnosed with COVID-19, he was admitted to the hospital and later kept in the intensive care unit where he died on Saturday morning, said a press relase.
He is survived by wife, two daughters and a son.
His mortal remains were sent to his village home in Jamalpur and will be buried at family graveyard under the management of police.
Police headquarters sources said that 741 members of police were infected with the novel virus and among them 356 were from Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
In the past 24 hours, 232 members of police contracted the disease.
More than 1,200 police personnel have been quarantined and 174 of them are kept on isolation.
So far 57 police personnel got recovered from the disease, the officials said.
