Crowd returns back to Dhaka streets

Dhaka streets are gaining crowd of people as Bangladesh government has relaxed some restrictions on shopping at malls and congregational prayers at mosques, while the nationwide shutdown of the transport system was still in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The streets from commercial hub Motijheel, Banani were packed with vehicles, commuters and pedestrians on Tuesday.

Unlike past two months, traffic police had to control vehicles at major crossings though there was no public transport.

At Karwan Bazar, a brief traffic congestion take place in the morning as wholesalers crowd there.

This development comes as the country reported highest 1,034 new COVID-19 cases, the steepest jump over a 24-hour period, bringing the overall tally to 15,691.

The death toll increased to 239.
