Govt ruined democracy in the name of development: BNP

Opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday said that Awami League government had ruined democracy in the name of development.

He said this while speaking at a publication ceremony of a book at the National Press Club.

Fakhrul also said that Awami League captured the voting rights of the people.

Referring to the mega projects taken by the government, the BNP leader said, ‘They have started looting people’s money through these. You have seen today that a girder of elevated express of Bus Rapid Transport project collapsed in front of Shahjalal International Airport leaving six people including two Chinese injured. Then what is the meaning of these projects which have been taken using the money of the people.’

The publication ceremony of the book titled ‘Kupi Batir Ganatantra,’ written by BNP joint secretary general Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, was chaired by the party’s standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy.

BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas, Dhaka University professor ABM Obaidul Islam, former teacher Morshed Hasan Khan, Jatiya Press Club general secretary Elias Khan and writer Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal spoke at the function.
