DMP again urges BNP to hold Dec 10 rally in open space

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has once again requested the BNP to hold its rally on December 10 in an open place.

No approval has been given yet for the alternative site proposal, DMP Motijheel Division DC Md Hayatul Islam Khan said in response to questions from journalists at Naya Paltan of the capital on Wednesday morning.

Approval will not be given to alternative places as per the demand of the BNP, he said.

Hayatul said: "BNP will not be allowed to hold a rally anywhere without the DMP's approval and permission."

If the BNP wants to hold a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan, then the problem that BNP has mentioned will be solved, said the DMP official.

Meanwhile, the BNP has decided not to hold the Dhaka rally at Suhrawardy Udyan.

Several members of the standing committee said that the decision was taken in a two-hour virtual meeting with the party's acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, on Monday night.

Sources told Bangla Tribune that the matter of not holding its biggest rally at Suhrawardy Udyan was finalized on Monday.

Besides, one of the top leaders of BNP also told that they have proposed another option to the government. “If they do not consider it, we will hold our rally at Naya Paltan. In that case, if there is obstruction by the police, that is also a minus point for the government.”

As part of the move to continue the pace of its ongoing movement, the BNP on September 27 announced a series of public rallies in 10 major cities.

The party will conclude the programs by holding its last rally in Dhaka on December 10.
