Juda Dal leader’s father ‘beaten to death’ in Wari, alleges family

A former Juba Dal leader alleged that his father was beaten to death by local Awami League activists for his political involvement with the main opposition party in the capital’s Wari area on early Thursday

Over 70 years old Millat Hossain died at capital’s Asgar Ali Hospital.

The victim’s son Foysal Mahbub Mizu is a former convener of Wari unit of Juba Dal, Bangladesh Nationalist Party-backed youth organisation.

Foysal alleged that local Awami League activists went to their house for him and started an argument with his father.

At one stage, the Awami League activists started beating Millat and hit him in the head, said Foysal.

Critically injured Millat was rushed to National Hospital and then he was shifted to Asgar Ali Hospital where he died, said Foysal.

Foysal complained that the Awami League activists had been threating his family for the last few days.

When contacted, Wari police officer-in-charge Kabir Hossain Hawlader said that they did not find the complaint of the attack to be true.

The OC said, ‘Millat Hossain’s son Foysal is a Juba Dal leader and his other son is a Bangladesh Chhatra League leader. Millat was sick. Some local people went to their house for Foysal and had heated argument with Millat.’

At one stage, Millat fell down and got hurt in his head on the floor and subsequently died, said the police officer.
