Bangladesh has turned into a prison: Moyeen Khan

The BNP today alleged that when a government is desperate to stay in power, it reaches a stage where it forgets about the people of the country.

"To stay in power, they started killing, disappearing people, and torturing. Bangladesh is now in that situation. The whole of Bangladesh has now turned into a prison," the party's standing committee member Abdul Moyeen Khan said at a programme at Dhaka Reporters Unity, organised to demand the release of party leaders.

Khan said the activities BNP performs as an opposition party is not against the government, but against the misrule of the government.

Referring to the constitution, he said it was the responsibility of the opposition party to ensure accountability of the government and its misdeeds.

"We believe in democracy. The government wants to eliminate the opposition to prolong its power."
