Quader: BNP wants a biased caretaker government

Awami League General Secretary and Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said BNP wants a biased caretaker government that will help them to gain power.

The Awami League does not want such a caretaker government, he said at a press briefing after the Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA) board meeting at Banani's Setu Bhaban on Sunday.

Regarding the caretaker government, Quader said: “The caretaker government was in power for two years whereas they were supposed to stay in power for three months. We do not want this type of caretaker government. People do not want it.”

“The national parliament elections will be held according to the country's constitution. Our government will do routine work at that time. The ministries and departments involved in the elections will be under the Election Commission,” he added.

BNP wants to revive the dead caretaker government which was abolished by law, commented Awami League General Secretary.

Mentioning that there is no foreign pressure to reinstall the caretaker government Quader said: “Awami League has held meetings with foreign diplomats on various issues, but we have not seen any pressure to create a caretaker government.”
