Ganatantra Mancha begins four-day Dhaka-Dinajpur road march

Ganatantra Mancha, a combine of six political parties, on Sunday started a four-day Dhaka-Dinajpur road march to press home the combine’s 14-point demands, including resignation of the Awami League government.

They began the road march from Bangladesh capital Dhaka after holding a rally in front of the National Press Club in the city at about 10:00am.

The demands also include holding the next general elections under a neutral interim government in a free, fair and credible manner.

Addressing the rally in front of the National Press Club, coordinator of the Mancha and Revolutionary Workers Party general secretary Saiful Huq said that they would hold the four-day Dhaka-Dinajpur road march to press its demands in a peaceful way.

The marcher began their journey from in front of the Matshya Bhaban and held it’s first rally at Gazipur Chourasta at around noon.

The marchers then headed for Tangail where they are scheduled to hold a rally at Karatipara by-pass in the afternoon.

‘The ruling Awami League, however, announced to hold a ‘peace rally’ at the same venue and the same time,’ Ganosamhati Andolan chief coordinator Zonayed Saki alleged.

Saiful Huq said that they would also hold rallies in different venues in Sirajganj, Bagura, Gaibandha, Dinajpur and Rangpur Town Hall premises during their four-day Dhaka-Dinajpur march to drum up support for their demands.

The concluding rally would be held in Rangpur on June 7.

The marchers started their march with several buses and private cars.

The components of the Ganatantra Mancha are Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal – JSD, Nagarik Oikya, Revolutionary Workers Party, Ganosamhati Andolan, Bhashani Onusari Parishad and Rastra Sanskar Andolan.
