BNP urges all to join movement

The main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, on Sunday urged all to join a fresh movement to restore democracy in the country.

He said that a new movement would be announced at a rally in Dhaka on July 12.

‘A new journey to restore democracy will start with the July 12 rally announcement. You all have to join the movement journey, Fakhrul said.

The BNP leader came up with the call while addressing a rally as the chief guest at Sylhet Government Alia Madrassah Ground in the afternoon.

Three affiliated organisations of the party – Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal, Chhatra Dal, and Swechchhasebak Dal – arranged the programme styled ‘Youth’s Rally to Protect the Country’ to mount pressure on the government to meet the party’s 10-point demand, including the formation of a non-party caretaker gove  nd sovereignty.

‘A proper people’s government has to be formed by ousting the incumbent tyrannical government from power,’ he said.

Fakhrul said that he was urging all the people of the country, all political parties, and all socio-cultural organisations once again to protect the country.

‘Come forward, we will stand with our heads up to  force the incumbent monster government to hold the next general election under a neutral, non-party government,’ said the BNP leader.

‘Our position is very clear. This government must resign, the parliament must be dissolved, and an election must be held under a non-party, neutral government. A fresh journey for the country will start by constituting a new government that will form a new election commission,’ he added.

Thousands of leaders and activists of the BNP’s youth front Juba Dal, student front Chhatra Dal, and volunteer front Swechchhasebak Dal reached the city from different parts of the district and its adjoining areas and marched towards the Alia Madrassah ground in processions.

Apart from colourful T-shirts and caps, the activists in several processions were also seen wearing clothes that read different slogans.
