Jamaat announces rally in Dhaka on August 4

After being denied permission to hold a rally today in Dhaka, Jamaat-e-Islami has announced that it will hold a rally in the capital on August 4.

Nurul Islam Bulbul, ameer of Jamaat's Dhaka city south unit, made the announcement at a press conference in the capital today.

The party did not disclose the venue of the press conference to avoid police harassment, a central leader said.

On July 24, Jamaat announced that it would hold a rally at the north gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque to press home its three-point demand including holding the next national election under a caretaker government.

But Dhaka Metropolitan Police last night said Jamaat would not be given permission for the rally as they have intelligence report that subversive activities might be carried out centring the rally.
