Govt staging 'militant drama' to divert public attention : Mirza Alamgir

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said the Awami League government staging a "drama" by conducting anti-militant drives to divert people's attention from the opposition party's one-point movement.

"Whenever the movement gains momentum, this militant drama is staged," said Fakhrul.

Mirza Fakhrul made these remarks while speaking as chief guest at a discussion on the occasion of the 54th birth anniversary of Arafat Rahman Koko, younger son of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, at Dhaka Reporters Unity in Segunbagicha.

His comment comes as police conducted a drive in Moulvibazar yesterday and arrested 10 suspected militants. Explosives and detonators were also recovered during the raid.

Referring to the drive, Mirza Fakhrul said, "The government is crafty. Out of the blue, they conducted an operation in Kulaura. ... Who brought the explosives?"

He said the Awami League knows it would not get even 10 percent of seats if the national elections are held under a neutral caretaker government.

"We have only one demand, a fair election under a non-partisan caretaker government," said Fakhrul.

Responding to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's remarks that there is no international support in favour of the BNP, Fakhrul said, "It shows how frightened you are. Everyone is now saying the polls must be fair."

The people of the country want to see the fall of this government. Be assured, change is coming, change will come." he added.
