Govt has special cell to expedite trial of BNP men : Mirza Alamgir

BNP today claimed that the government has opened a special cell in the law ministry to expedite the trial of a number of party leaders and activists.

The process has started already and 15 leaders were sentenced to four years in prison, said BNP's Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said during a press conference at the party chairperson's office in Gulshan.

"What the government is doing in the name of law is nothing but an illegal criminal activity," he said.

Mirza Fakhrul also demanded that the government stop "such activities" immediately.

On October 9, a Dhaka court sentenced 15 leaders and activists of the BNP-led 20-party and Jatiya Party, including BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's adviser Habibur Rahman Habib, to four years' imprisonment in a case filed over torching vehicles and preventing police from discharging their duties in Bhatara on January 4 in 2015.
