BNP destroys caretaker govt system: Quader

Ruling Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Friday alleged that the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party had destroyed the caretaker government system.

‘BNP had destroyed the caretaker government system in Bangladesh through their activities in 2001 and 2006.....There is no rationality to implement the system in the country as the court has taken necessary actions based on the reality,’ said Quader.

He was responding to questions from journalists at a briefing at AL president’s political office at Dhanmondi in Dhaka, after holding a meeting with the Puja Celebration Committe.

He said that caretaker government existed only in Pakistan and no democratic country was following the system.

Replying to another question about the BNP’s grand rally on October 28 to oust the government, he said that BNP told that its chairperson Khaleda Zia would run the country from December 10 in the past year.

‘What happened then?’ the AL general secretary wanted to know.

He said that BNP’s movement would go in vain again.

‘Puja is being celebrated in 32,408 mandaps across the country. It is difficult for police to provide security in all mandaps,’ he mentioned.

Quader, also the road, transport and bridges minister, urged the leaders and activists of the AL and its associate bodies to guard puja mandaps, temples and houses of Hindu communities during the Puja celebration.
