AL launches electoral activities, forms management committee

The ruling Awami League on Thursday formed election management committee in a move to launch electoral activities for the 12th general election expected to be held in Bangladesh in January next year.

AL general secretary Obaidul Quader informed it to journalists after holding the party’s central executive committee meeting with the party president and prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

The meeting was held at the prime minister’s official residence Ganabhaban in Dhaka.

‘We have formed the election management committee with prime minister Sheikh Hasina as the chairman and, as the party general secretary, I am the member secretary. We have not finalised the co-chairman,’ said Quader.

The AL general secretary said that the nomination seekers could buy the party nomination forms from the party central office on Bangabandhu Avenue in Dhaka after the announcement of the next general election schedule.

'The price of one nomination form is Tk 50,000,' he said.

He said that the prime minister directed all AL leaders and activists to refrain from any indecent remarks on the United States ambassador to Bangladesh, Peter Haas.

He also said that disciplinary action would be taken against the Mujibul Haque, chairman of Chambal union of Chattogram’s Banshkhali upazila, for making indecent remarks on the US envoy.

Quader also said that AL advisory committee, central executive committee and presidents and secretaries of Dhaka City unit AL would also work in the election management committee.
