Ganatantra Mancha urges Bangladesh people not to cast votes

The leaders of Ganatantra Mancha, a combine of six political parties, at a protest rally in Bangladesh capital Dhaka rejected the ‘unilateral’ general election.

Terming the elections farcical, they called on the voters not to cast their votes in the elections scheduled for January 7.

Ganatantra Mancha held the rally in front of the National Press Club during the hartal hours on Tuesday.

Nagarik Oikya general secretary Shahidulla Kaiysar presided over the programme.

Revolutionary Workers Party general secretary Saiful Huq said that Awami League was trying to pursue their misrule through the elections.

He called on the voters to reject the farcical elections and not to cast their votes in the elections.

Ganosamhati Andolan chief coordinator Zonayed Saki said that most of the opposition political parties rejected the elections.

The government was going to legitimise the elections setting dummy candidates which would not be acceptable, Saki said.

Awami League government would be compelled to resign from the power before the elections in the face of mass movement, Saki hoped.

He called on the government to lift the ban on holding protest rallies and processions before the general elections.

Bhashani Onusari Parishad convener Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu called on the people to come down to the streets to force the government to resign.

Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD general secretary Shahid Uddin Mahmud Shapon said the controversial general elections would bring new crisis for the country.

Prior to the rally, Mancha brought out a procession from Topkhana Road and paraded Purana Paltan crossing and Bijoynagar.

Mancha will hold a rally in front of the National Press Club today (Wednesday) at 11:30am demanding resignation of AL government.

Left Democratic Alliance, a combine of six left parties, announced a rally in front of the National Press Club on December 22, rejecting the upcoming general elations.
