AL survives relying on foreigners, says BNP

The main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party said on Sunday that the Awami League was surviving in power by relying on foreigners.

‘By forming a dummy government through the January 7 dummy elections, you [prime minister] Sheikh Hasina] are now suffering from the fear of losing power. Rejected by the public, you are now looking for conspiracy theories,’ BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said at a press conference at the party’s Naya Paltan central office.

Responding to the PM’s Saturday’s remark that conspiracy was still on against her government, Rizvi said that people showed a red card to AL on January 7.

‘Thousands of images of fake votes and irregularities have gone viral on social media and in the mass media. Children have also participated in vote-rigging. The defeated candidates of the Awami League also termed this election a farce and a mockery of people. This questionable election has not been accepted anywhere in the country or abroad,’ he said.

In response to Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader’s remark that BNP was looking at foreign friends so that the government could not remain in power and the party was hoping for Cambodia-like sanctions, Rizvi said that not BNP but AL was staying in power depending on foreigners.

Accusing prime minister Sheikh Hasina of making jokes, Rizvi said, ‘The prime minister is sitting in Tungipara and making cheap jokes with the country’s people. She is threatening the top leaders of the BNP, singing Hindi songs in a cheerful mood. We were shocked to hear this.’
