Protests against AL nominees in 10 dists

Dhaka, Nov 27 (Just News) :Police detained at least 15 people as Awami League grassroots staged demonstrations in 10 districts across the country on Monday, protesting at the candidates nominated by the ruling party for the upcoming general election.

The followers of Keraniganj upazila chairman Shahin Ahmed staged demonstrations demanding the cancellation of food minister Qamrul Islam's nomination in Dhaka-2 constituency (Keraniganj-Kamrangirchar.

In Mymensingh, at least three persons were injured following feuds over AL-led coalition nomination to Jatiya Party leader Fakhrul Imam. JaPa is a key ally party of the AL-led coalition.

Hundreds of supporters of AL central leader Abdus Sattar put up a barricade on Mymensingh-Kishoreganj highway demanding nomination for him in Mymensingh-8 (Ishwarganj) constituency.

Meanwhile, Abdus Sattar's in law's house was attacked on Monday night that left three persons injured. At this, police detained nine people.

In Kushtia, supporters of AL's nomination aspirants tried to block the Kushtia-Paragpur Road, and demanded the cancelation of the nomination of AKM Sarwar Jhan Badsha in Kushtia-1 constituency.

In Faridpur, followers of current MP and deputy leader in parliament, Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, blocked Dhaka-Khulna highway at Joybangla Crossing at Nagarkanda as the party denied her nomination for Faridpur-2 constituency.

Demonstrators withdrew the blockade around 12:00pm learning that Sajeda Chowdhury was given the party ticket.

In Jhalokathi, a faction of AL leaders and activists staged demonstrations demanding the cancellation of the nomination for current member of parliament (MP) Bazlul Haque Haroon.

In Jamalpur, supporters of AL aspirant Rezaul Karim staged demonstrations and blocked Jamalpur-Tangail and Jamalpur-Mymensingh highways demanding Rezaul's nomination for Jamalpur-5 (Sadar).

In Kurigram, leaders and activists of the district Awami League staged a demonstration for an hour, demanding Md Zafar Ali be nominated from within the party for Kurigram-2.

They also blocked different points on the Rangpur-Kurigram highway, felling trees and electric poles as JaPa leader Panir Uddin Ahmed got the nomination as a Grand Alliance candidate.

In Bramhanbaria, supporters of Moinuddin Moin blocked Dhaka-Sylhet highway for over an hour and demonstrated in Ashuganj, demanding his nomination for Brahmanbaria-2. JaPa vice chairman Ziaul Haque Mridha got the ruling alliance nomination from this seat.

In Netrokona, supporters of Moshtak Ahmed blockaded roads and demonstrated as district Awami League president Manu Majumdar got the party ticket of Netrokona-1. Police detained six people in connection with the demonstration at the time.

In Sylhet, hundreds of AL men blocked Dhaka-Sylhet highway demanding the party does not give the seat to an ally party and the cancellation of JaPa leader and current MP Yahya Chowdhury's nomination.

The AL has already announced that about 230 candidates would contest the general election from within the party, while the remaining constituencies would be allocated to partners in the ruling alliance.
