Bangladesh trail by 304 runs after day 2

The Tigers are struggling in Dhaka Test against the West Indies after conceding more than 400 runs in the first innings and losing four wickets for 105 runs.

At the end of the day two of the second game of two-match Test series, Bangladesh are trailing by 304 runs.

West Indies' premium pace-bowler Shannon Gabriel bagged two early wickets when Bangladesh started their first innings right after the tea break.

Off the last ball of first over, Soumya Sarkar – who got into the XI to replace injured opener Shadman Islam – was caught chipping a straight ball delivered from round the wicket to Kyle Mayers at short mid-wicket.

In his next over, Gabriel removed Najmul Hossain Shanto who hit a four just before getting dismissed.

Before the end of the day, Bangladesh also lost captain Mominul Haque and opener Tamim Iqbal.

Mushfiqur Rahim and Mohammad Mithun, who got a chance due to Shakib Al Hasan's injury, added 34 runs from 122 balls in the fifth wicket stand.

Bangladesh reached the end of the day having lost four wickets for a score of 105 runs in 36 overs. Mushfiqur and Mithun remained unbeaten on 27 and 6.

Earlier, the West Indies posted 409 in their first innings riding on two 90s by Nkrumah Bonner (90) and Joshua Da Silva (92). Also, Alzarri Joseph (82) hit his second Test 50 with eight fours and five sixes.

And Joshua and Joseph added 118 runs in the seventh wicket stand. Also, in the first session of day two, Bangladesh were able to take only one wicket as Mehidy Hasan Miraz removed Bonner.

But after the launch break, Taijul Islam and Abu Jayed Rahi showed some serious bowling and took the last four wickets.

Abu Jayed and Taijul ended up taking four wickets each while Soumya and Mehidy took one wicket each.

After picking up the wicket of Bonner, Mehidy reached his 99 Test wickets. If the right-arm off-break bowler takes one more wicket in the next innings, he'll be the fastest to reach 100 wickets in the format.
