Shakib, Saifuddin make it 4-1 for Bangladesh

Bangladesh humiliated Australia with a 60-run win in the fifth and final Twenty20 to win the series 4-1 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Monday.

Shakib Al Hasan took 4-9 while Mohammad Saifuddin, playing his first match in the series, took 3-12 to bundle out Australia for 62, their lowest total ever in T20s.

Mathew Wade and Ben McDermott made 22 and 17 respectively while no other Australia batter managed to get into the double figures.

Earlier, Australian bowlers pulled back the innings after Bangladesh got off to a flying start as the hosts had to settle for 122-8 in their 20 overs.

Opener Mohammad Naim’s run-a-ball 23 was the highest score from a Bangladeshi batter on the day while skipper Mahmudullah began promisingly but ended on 19 off 14 balls.

All-rounder Daniel Christian came good for the Aussies as he took 2-17 in his four overs and Nathan Ellis also kept a tight leash on the Tigers, finishing with 2-16.

Australia had reached 53-4 in the 11th over when Saifuddin and Shakib began their onslaught, sharing the remaining six wickets for just nine runs to fold Australia’s innings

With his four-wicket haul, Shakib became the first Bangladesh bowler to take more than 100 wickets in T20 internationals, taking his tally to 102 in 83 matches.

Bangladesh had seale3d the series by winning the first three matches.

The tourists got their only win in the series in the fourth game before suffering another humiliation at the hands of the hosts.

The Australia team will leave for home tonight.
