During a briefing at UN headquarters on Wednesday, Stéphane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, stated that there is a mechanism to hold a member state accountable for gross violations of human rights, voting, and fundamental rights.

UN correspondent Mushfiqul Fazal raised the issue, noting the dismissal by the Bangladesh regime of UN calls to respect fundamental rights. The ruling foreign minister's statement, "Who is saying what from the UN, we don’t care," was emphasized.

In response to a question about accountability for such violations, spokesperson Dujarric explained, "Well, there is… I would say that probably the best mechanism for any member state is the universal periodic review conducted within the Human Rights Council."
