Minibus-lorry collision in India's Andhra Pradesh leaves 14 dead

Fourteen people, including eight women and a child, were killed and four others injured as a minibus collided with a lorry in Kurnool district of the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh early today, police said.

The incident took place at around 4 am when a group of people from Chittoor district of the state were travelling in the minibus, which contained 18 passengers, towards Hyderabad on their way to Ajmer in Rajasthan, Kurnool Police Superintendent K Fakirappa said.

He said only four children survived the accident.

Preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the minibus apparently lost control of the vehicle which first crashed against the road median and then rolled on to the other side of the road hitting a lorry coming from the opposite direction, the official said.

The injured have been hospitalised and the condition of two is stated to be serious, police said.
