Western allies sending arms to Ukraine: Zelensky

The Western countries are sending weapons to Ukraine, tweeted President Volodymyr Zelensky after speaking with French President Emmanuel Macron today.

"A new day on the diplomatic frontline began with a conversation with Emmanuel Macron," Zelensky tweeted.

"Weapons and equipment from our partners are on the way to Ukraine. The anti-war coalition is working!" his tweet read.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden and his NATO counterparts agreed to send thousands of troops backed by air and naval support to protect allies near Russia and Ukraine, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said yesterday.

The 30-nation organisation will send parts of the NATO Response Force and elements of a quickly deployable spearhead unit to the alliance's eastern flank, AP reported. It's the first time the force has been used to defend NATO allies.

The Ukrainian president also appeared in a video recorded outside his office in Kyiv this morning.

In the video posted on his Twitter account he pledged to keep fighting as Russian forces closed in.

He also urged citizens of his country not to believe in "fakes" about the surrender of the Ukrainian army.
