21 COVID-19 patients die, 1,508 new patients detected in 24 hours

Bangladesh on Thursday recorded 21 more COVID-19 deaths and identified 1,508 new cases amid the fluctuation of infection rates.

The rate of infection was 13.20 per cent in the 24 hours ending at 8:00am on Thursday, according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services.

The DGHS, in its Thursday release, said that 1,508 new cases were detected after 11,420 samples were tested across the country during the period.

With these figures, Bangladesh tallied 3,64,987 coronavirus cases with 5,272 deaths.

Bangladesh registered its first three coronavirus cases on March 8 and the first death from the infection on March 18.

The DGHS said that among the 21 new deaths, 11 died in Dhaka division, five died in Chattogram, three died in Rajshahi, and two died in Rangpur divisions.

Of them, 16 were male and five were female.

Of the dead, 14 were aged above 60 years, six were between 51 and 60 years, and one was between 41 and 50 years.

According to the DGHS, 2,77,078 COVID-19 patients have recovered so far, including 1,591 in the past 24 hours.
