975 women raped in nine months

At least 975 women were raped over the last nine months in Bangladesh, from January, according to a report.

Of them, 762 were raped by individual accused, whereas, 208 women were gang-raped, according to data compiled by human rights organization Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK) published Thursday.

The report said 43 rape victims were murdered after rape and 12 victims of rape died by suicide afterwards. The statistical report was compiled based on information from nine daily newspapers, online news portals, and its own sources.

ASK statement said, in the last nine months 161 women were also victims of sexual assault.

Three women and nine men were killed while they were protesting assault incidents.

At least 183 housewives were killed by their husbands, 52 were killed by husband’s family after torture, 66 housewives killed over dowry and 1,078 child rapes, abduction, tortures took place. Of them, 445 children were killed or their bodies were recovered with marks evidencing abuse and torture.

Apart from this, at least 39 Bangladeshi citizens were killed along the Indian border by the Border Security Force (BSF) in 2020.

Of them, 32 were killed by BSF fire and six were tortured. Besides, 18 were injured and 20 were abducted from the border area.
