BGB seizes 56 gold bars worth Tk 5.3cr in Cox’s Bazar

Border Guard Bangladesh on Thursday evening seized 52 pieces of gold bar worth Tk 5.30 crore and arrested three suspected smugglers in Palongkhali of Ukhiya upazila under Cox’s Bazar.

The arrested are Monir Alam, 38, son of Syed Ahmed of Sikatpara of Cox’s Bazar town, Noor Ahmed, 37, son of Mohammad Syed Noor and Md Mamonur Rasid, 28, son of Md Nurul Alam – both from Whykong union of Teknaf.

According to the Lieutenant Colonel Ali Haidar Azad, commanding officer of 34 BGB Battalion in Cox’s Bazar, acting on a tip of a team of BGB members stopped a CNG-run auto-rikshaw in Khatakhali Bridge and found the gold bars.

A case was filed with Ukhiya police station in this connection and arrested three persons were handed over to police.
