Three more accused confess before court

Three more people accused in a case filed over the gang-rape of a woman at Murari Chand College gave their confessional statements to a Sylhet court today.

A team of Shah Poran Police Station, led by inspector Indranil Bhattacharya, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, produced the three accused -- Shah Mahbubur Rahman Roni, Rajon Miah and Md Ainuddin -- before the Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Court around 1:00pm today.

Of the three, Rajon gave his confessional statement before Sylhet Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ziadur Rahman. Metropolitan Magistrates Saifur Rahman and Sharmin Khanom Nila recorded statements of Ainuddin and Roni.

On September 29, the three accused were placed on a five-day remand in the case.

Jyotirmoy Sarker, additional deputy commissioner (media) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police, said, "With these three, confessional statements of six accused have been recorded in the court and the remaining two accused will be produced before the court tomorrow on Sunday."

Yesterday, three of the other named accused in the case made statements under section 164 before a Sylhet court. They are: Saifur Rahman, Rabiul Islam, and Arjun Lasker.

Meanwhile, DNA samples of two other accused in the case -- Tarequl Islam Tarek and Mahfuzur Rahman Masum -- were collected at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital this morning.

On September 25, a group of youth raped a woman at a hostel of MC College after forcefully taking the victim and her husband there, who they then tied up.

The husband of the victim filed the case on the same night with Shah Poran Police Station accusing Saifur Rahman (28), Shah Mahbubur Rahman Roni (25), Arjun Lasker (25), Mahfuzur Rahman Masum (25), Tarek Ahmed (28), Rabiul Islam (25), and 2-3 more unnamed men.
