BCL man sued for raping schoolgirl in Sylhet

A 14-year-old schoolgirl was reportedly raped by her alleged boyfriend in Dariapara of Sylhet City on Tuesday.

The accused has been identified as Rakib Hossain, student of Sylhet’s Madan Mohan College and a Bangladesh Chhatra League activist, confirmed a former leader of Chhatra League seeking anonymity.

The victim’s mother filed a case in this regard with Kotwali police station on Friday.

According to the girl’s family members, the 14-year-old was raped by her alleged boyfriend, Rakib Hossain, 20, who forced himself onto her by promising to marry her in the near future.

The girl was admitted to Osmani Medical College Hospital’s One Stop Crisis Centre on Friday, confirmed Jyotirmoy Sarker, additional deputy commissioner (media) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP).

He said: “The girl is a fifth or sixth-grader and Rakib is a student of Sylhet’s Madan Mohan College. Rakib is also alleged to be a member of Bangladesh Chhatra League.

“We have received an allegation that Rakib raped the girl after luring her with the promise of marriage. We are investigating the matter.”

Previously on September 25, a woman was gang-raped at the MC College dormitory in Sylhet.

Her husband filed a case against nine suspects. The court granted remand to eight accused arrested in the incident for five days each.
