4 killed as train hits private car in Jashore

At least four passengers including a five-year-old child and the driver of a private car were killed as well as two others injured when a Khulna-bound train hit them at level crossing in Abhaynagar upazila of Jashore on Friday afternoon.

However, the identities of deceased have not been known immediately.

Nawapara railway station master Mohsin Reza said, " A private car was crossing the Bhairab Bridge from the other side of the Bhairab River to the Jashore-Khulna highway. Then the car was gone in front of the Khulna-bound Mahananda Express while crossing the railway line in Bhangagate area. Then, due to the collision of the train, the private car twisted and crashed resulting in killing two of the six in the private car, including the driver, died on the spot. Police and Railway Police and Nawapara Fire Service personnel rushed to the spot and took a five-year-old boy to Abhaynagar Health Complex, however, the child died on the way."

He added that three passengers were rescued in critical condition and sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital. The train movement was stopped for about an hour after the incident.

Tajul Islam, officer-in-charge of Abhaynagar Police Station, said that the identities of those killed and injured in the accident have not been found yet. However, all the victims of the accident can be residents of Narail or Rupganj.
