A total of 996 new Covid-19 cases have been recorded in the Sylhet division in 24 hours till this morning, breaking previous records of infection.
Before this, the highest number of infections in a day was 802, recorded on Friday.
A total of 2,566 samples were tested. The infection rate in the division stood at 38.82 percent.
Dr Himangshu Lal Roy, Sylhet Divisional Director of Health, confirmed the information in the daily Covid-19 divisional statistical report.
Of the latest cases, Sylhet district saw the highest infections as 399 people out of 975 samples tested positive.
In Sunamganj, 106 out of 412 samples tested positive. In Habiganj, 351 out of 792 samples tested positive, and 140 out of 387 samples in Moulvibazar tested positive.
The infection rate is 40.92 percent in Sylhet, 25.73 percent in Sunamganj, 44.32 percent in Habiganj, and 36.18 percent in Moulvibazar.
Meanwhile, 9 have died in 24 hours till this morning.
405 people were admitted at hospitals in the division till this morning. Among them, 286 are in Sylhet, 67 in Sunamganj, 30 in Habiganj, and 22 in Moulvibazar.
A total of 40,452 people have been infected with Covid-19 in the division so far while 30,843 people have recovered and 702 have died till today.
