Covid death toll surges past 21,000 in Bangladesh

The death toll from Covid-19 crossed 21,000 mark in Bangladesh as the country logged an additional Covid deaths of 246 people and 15,989 cases in 24 hours until Monday morning.

With the latest statistics, the total death toll hits 21,162 and infections to 12,80,317 since it had recorded the first death from the viral disease on March 18, 2020.

The daily test positivity rate is 29.91 per cent.

Among the deceased, 137 are male and 109 female are patients.

The Directorate General of Health Services came up with the latest statistics on its daily Covid press release.

A total of 53,462 samples have been tested during the reporting period across the country at 639 laboratories while Bangladesh had tested 78,43, 885 samples as of August 2.

In the past 24 hours, 15,482 patients recovered from the viral disease totaling the recovery to 11,08,748.

In case of the divisions, Dhaka logged the highest death toll of 76 and Chattogram logged 64 deaths.

Rajshahi logged 22 deaths, Khulna 30, Barishal 16, Sylhet 14, Rangpur 14 and Mymensingh logged 10 deaths in the timeline.

Reports received from Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, Satkhira, Bogura and Tangail said that at least 99 patients died at the Covid units of hospitals in the districts in 24 hours ending Monday morning.

Of the deceased, 45 were Covid patients and 54 had symptoms, according to the reports.
