Govt extends public service job age limit by 21 months

Students and job seekers are in despair as very few government job notices were published this year

The government has once again extended the age limit for public service jobs, this time by 21 months due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

A notice issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Thursday says job seekers below the age limit on March 25, 2020 can apply for jobs at all government offices that were unable to issue recruitment notices due to the pandemic until the end of this year.

The Bangladesh Civil Service examinations, however, have been excluded from the extension.

Students and jobseekers have been demanding to extend the age limit to be eligible for public service examination to 30 permanently, a demand the government has not agreed to.

However, in September last year, the age rules were relaxed allowing candidates above the age limit to apply for the exams.

Although the PSC conducted BSC preliminary tests this year, few recruitment notices for other public service jobs were published.

On August 12, State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain told the media that a proposal to relax the maximum age requirement has been sent to the prime minister’s office for approval.
