evaly chairman, CEO detained in RAB raid

The Rapid Action Battalion officials on Thursday detained e-commerce firm evaly chairman Shamima Nasrin and her husband and the firm’s chief executive officer Md Russell at their house in Bangladesh capital Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area.

They were detained by the RAB officials during a raid, several hours after a case was filed by a customer Arif Barek of Narayanganj with the Gulshan police station against the couple.

The couple was taken away from their home by a team of RAB officials led by its intelligence director Lieutenant Colonel Khairul Islam at about 5:45pm.

The RAB officials did not make any formal comment but a large number of officials from the RAB conducted the raid at the house on Sir Syed Road in Mohammadpur area.

Meanwhile, Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Thursday set October 21 to submit a probe report in the money embezzlement case against the e-commerce company’s CEO and the chairman.

Judge Asaduzzaman Nur of the court passed the order, accepting the first information report of the case filed by Arif Baker, a customer of evaly.

According to the case documents, the victim and a couple of his friends ordered some products through the e-commerce platform in the months of May and June. But they didn't get any product in spite of paying the money in advance. They repeatedly called the evaly customer care numbers, but they didn't give any heed to their calls.

On September 9, they went to the Dhanmandi headquarters of evaly, where evaly staff along with its CEO threatened them and said they (victims) would neither get their money, nor the products.
