BNP finds no success in PM’s New York visit

Opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday said that there was no sign of success in the prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s New York visit.

BNP secretary general made the remark when talking with journalists at Chandrima Udyan.

He went to the udyan along with the new committee members of Jatiyatabadi Krishik Dal to place wreaths at the grave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman.

He said that the government has no way to be successful because it destroyed all institutions that needed to make the country democratic.

‘Her [PM] speech that given at UNGA had no word about the recovery from the ruins,’ Fakhrul said.

He said that the government was keeping the Rohingya issue alive to get advantages from the international community.

He said that the government completely failed to solve the Rohingya issue and as a result the repatriation of Rohingya becomes uncertain, he added.

‘The government is yet to visit China and India to discuss Rohingya repatriation while the countries have some major role in this regard,’ Fakhrul said.

On Friday, prime minister Sheikh Hasina addressed the high-level General Debate of the 76th United Nations General Assembly.

Besides, in a statement, BNP on Sunday said that it will hold a discussion on October 1 at National Press Club.

It said that the party organised the discussion marking the day of the 8th parliamentary elections held on the day under a ‘no-party natural caretaker government’.

The party took the decision at its standing committee meeting held on Saturday.

Besides, BNP media wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan said that the party policymakers will hold a meeting with pro-BNP lawyers at the party chairperson’s Gulshan office.
