Dhaka University (DU) admission tests will be held from October 1, at all divisional cities of the country besides Dhaka.
The development was announced at a press conference today by DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Akhtaruzzaman.
The Vice-Chancellor said undergraduate (honours) admission tests for the academic year 2020-21 will be held in public universities in seven divisional cities for the first time. The decision was taken to allow students to reach test centres in less time, save money, and reduce inconvenience.
He said admission tests will be held at Chittagong University, Rajshahi University, Khulna University, Bangladesh Agricultural University in Mymensingh, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology in Sylhet, Barishal University, and Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur. The vice-chancellors of the universities have confirmed that they will cooperate with the decision.
The DU VC also mentioned that the admission test usually starts at 10am, but for special reasons, the exam will begin from 11am this time. The exam will last one and half hours.
The exam for the "Ka" unit will be held on October 1, followed by "Kha" unit on October 2, "Ga" unit on October 22, and "Gha" unit on October 23. The exam for "Cha" unit will take place on October 9.
Exams for Ka, Kha, Ga, and Gha units will consist of multiple-choice questions (MCQ) and written part. The MCQ part will be worth 60 marks, while the written test will be worth 40 marks.
Only in the Cha unit's exam, the "general knowledge" section will be worth 40 marks, and the drawing test will be worth 60 marks.
The DU VC also said that the ringleaders of digital fraud circles, whose activities raised questions regarding the integrity of admission tests, have been brought under the law.
The university has also identified candidates who were admitted as a result of these fraudsters' activities. Their admission has been canceled and they, too, have been brought under the law. To break the cycle of fraud, the university has adopted a zero-tolerance policy, he added.
