Top Rohingya leader in Bangladesh, Mohibullah, was shot and killed by an unidentified group of people in his office on Wednesday night.
Witness said that Mohibullah, the chairman of Arakan Rohingya Society for Peace and Human Rights, was shot by a group of eight people at about 8:30pm when he was talking with some other people in his office of Arakan Rohingya Society for Peace and Human Rights at Lombasiha of Ukhiya in Cox’s Bazar at about 8:30pm.
They also said that the attackers managed to run away from the spot just after shooting at the leader, who has escaped several assassination attempts.
Other Rohingyas were rescued and sent to BRAC Health Centre at Camp-1, but Mohibullah, a man in his fifties, was sent to Hop Hospital at camp-3 in critical condition.
Duty doctor declared him dead at the hospital.
APBn-14 superintendent of police Tariqul Islam said nobody claimed the attack.
At least ten to 15 arms group including Sukkor group, Islam group, Nabi Hossen group, Munna group, ARSHA, RSO, Islami Maht group are active in the camp.
Mohibullah is one of key Rohingya leaders and he has represented the displaced Rohingyas the UN in Geneva.
APBn commanding officer Nayeemul Haque said that assailants shot five bullets and three of those riddle thorough his chest.
He was against the movement of Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army.
Human Rights Watch’s South Asia director Meenakshi Ganguly, in her Twitter, wrote, 'This is terrible. Mohibullah provided crucial leadership to the RohingyaRefugees in Bangladesh, repeatedly saying, that they want to go home, but with dignity and safety. He always thanked the Bangladeshi people for providing refuge, but also asked for rights protections.'
